| Friends of Bolivia
has an annual Festival in October each year. It has
grown in popularity every year, with more and more people
from the Bolivian community and their non-Bolivian friends
and spouses attending to meet one another. This is held
outdoors, with a barbecue with generous food portions, with
on-site cooking by members of Friends of Bolivia. All
the food and drinks are donated.
There is usually a walkathon in the morning.
For the children, there are all kinds of entertainment
for those of every age, including a bouncing plastic house.
The lake and the ducks are a great source of amusement for
the toddlers. The clown juggles various objects,
creates balloon animals, and in general makes it a memorable
occasion for everyone.
This year there were sack races for men, women, boys, and
girls, and of course, the toddlers got into the act with the
Papa Roos, Mama Roos, and Baby Roos hopping around with
sacks around their feet.
There was of course the ever popular Sapo where the
objective is to get the metal pieces into the mouth of the
frog.
A feature of the 2003 event was the Waiter's race,
where each contestant held up a tray of Styrofoam cups full
of beer, and the objective was to run the fastest over two
lengths of the field, without spilling any of the beer; the
winner got a prize, and the others doused each other with
the beer.
Another highlight this year was the flash soccer
tournament. The winning team, Litoral, led by the
captain Roberto Escobar, was awarded a revolving trophy in
honor of Milton Pereira. |
