Dear Friends,

Congratulations!!!  Your efforts made it possible to provide significant aid to the needy in Bolivia, and the Board of Directors of Friends of Bolivia sincerely thanks you for your support.  The changes and events of the last year worsened the already bad economic situation of many third world countries. The  economic crises in the United States, including the fall of the stock market, the collapse of dot-com companies and especially the tragedy of September 11,  caused us to fall short in our plans to increase assistance to the organizations that we continually support.  At the same time, we continue to expand our aid to other organizations to further our cause.  Our goal remains to provide assistance and relief to the needy.  Accomplishing this requires relentless support to various organizations, regardless of their social, political or religious affiliation.  Therefore if you or someone you know is familiar with an organization that would benefit from our support please let us know.  Any organization that has a clear goal in mind toward the compassionate assistance of the needy is an ideal candidate.

From time to time Friends of Bolivia, in accordance with internal and IRS regulations, performs audits on the organizations that receive the majority of our assistance.  It is a pleasure to inform you that our last audit in January 2002, confirmed that these organizations are utilizing the funds to the fullest extent toward the accomplishment of their goals.  We commend these organizations for their outstanding efforts and achievements. The audited organizations were:

  • Amancer

  • Warmi

  • Consipe

  • Clinica Padre Santiago Dyer

  • Policonsultorio Comedor Rosario

  • Comedor Infantil Parroquia Santa Ana

  • Liga Voluntaria Antituberculosa

The funds collected at the Bolivian Independence Celebration on August 2001, in a joint effort by the Bolivian Community of Northern California, were presented in full by Friends of Bolivia to the "Hogar de Ancianos Sagrado Corazon, Trinidad-Beni."  As part of our mission to raise awareness and understanding of Bolivian culture, the Community Museum of Milpitas, CA in cooperation with Friends of Bolivia has opened a permanent exhibit "Bolivia and its Music".  This exhibit was made possible through cooperation with the Milpitas City Council and the donations of Beatriz and Hermiņa Escobar.  Our deepest appreciation goes out to this family for the many items they contributed toward this worthy cause.  We encourage all interested parties to view this remarkable exhibit, which is located at 559 East Calaveras Boulevard, Milpitas Town Center, CA.

The Friends of Bolivia Board of Directors, newly elected on February 20, 2002, meets at least once a month to plan activities and arrange support for its organizations.  The board is very interested in receiving more community participation to aid the election of new members and increase cooperation with other organizations that help the needy. To find out about our next meeting, please send an e-mail to: friendsofbolivia@yahoo.com.

Thank you and God bless you.

Best regards,

Friends of Bolivia
Board of Directors
